Western provides a wide variety of support for students in need, from financial aid counselling, food security, legal support, mental health care and academic counselling.
Western supports its' students in financial need with a variety of mechanisms including loans, bursaries, innovation support programs and legal advice.

A brief description of notable policies or programs to support non-traditional students:
A first generation student is a student whose parents have not enrolled in any post-secondary studies at any time, in any program. The success of Western's first generation students is important to us. With that in mind, Western has many helpful programs and services available to enhance first generation students' experience, and provide them with assistance throughout their academic career at Western.

The International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) is a department of Western International, which offers a full range of programs and services to support international students during their stay at Western.

If a student has grown up in the care of the Canadian Children’s Aid Society, they may be eligible for bursary support to cover their full tuition at Western. For up to 20 students (5 students per year for 4 years), we offer to cover:
- Full tuition for up to 4 years of full-time studies at Western main campus.
- Ancillary fees for up to 4 years.
- Books & supplies for required courses for the module(s) the student is pursuing.

Financial support for Indigenous Students is available through the Office of Indigenous Initiatives. As part of Western’s commitment to increase Indigenous voices and presence across all levels of work, study and research, the University has established an Office of Indigenous Initiatives. The Office and the VP/AVP (Indigenous Initiatives) leads system-wide change in order to advance truth and reconciliation efforts, and achieve equitable outcomes for Indigenous Peoples.
