1st program
Morrow Hall Sustainability Interest Community
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
All students who live in Morrow Hall (a campus residence hall) participate in the Sustainability Interest Community. Weekly programing is developed by student Resident Assistants (RA's) to promote sustainability awareness and participation.
Morrow Hall Sustainability Interest Community Description:
Learn how to walk softly on the earth and build life skills by joining the Sustainability Interest Community! Together, students will focus on learning about the impact that we have on the world around us, and what we can do in our everyday life to make our environment healthy for years to come. Sustainability is the practice of "meeting the needs of the present while also enhancing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Students will learn by getting involved with the community garden on campus, group bike rides, Earth Day events, and recycling campaigns.
The Sustainability Coordinator provides a general introduction to sustainability training to all of Morrrow Hall's RA's (Resident Assistants) at the beginning of the year and then meets with them once per month through the year. The Sustainability Coordinator also coordinates with them to provide support and resources throughout the semester as needed. In winter 2019, all RA's also attended a three day nature "winter camp" with the sustainability office staff to take a deep dive into sustainability training that they could bring back to their residents.
The RA's in turn, build their programming and activities around sustainability concepts. The programs themselves are very driven by the RA's personal interests related to sustainability. Previous programs included a nature walk, sustainability tips hung by toilets, and sustainability trivia night.
