Energy Management and Benchmarking

All buildings with the exception of Karges and Nelson which are slated for demolition in the near future are managed through an energy management program. The program involves many facets including oversight by an energy management work team and utilization of technology. The energy management work team has a rolling energy fund which includes funds from the Focus on Energy program. Funds are reinvested into future campus energy efficiency improvement projects. UWRF uses the Metasys Building Automation system to monitor energy usage and to make adjustments when possible. Staff in Facilities Management monitor energy usage to control peak demand and to make energy efficiency improvements by analyzing building schedules. They then update schedules 4 x per year to reflect changes in building usage.

A brief description of the water management or benchmarking program:
The water management program utilized by UWRF involves always upgrading fixtures to result in improved water efficiency. UWRF has implemented and continues to implement the use of water bottle refill stations, low flow shower heads, and low flow urinals. Facilities Management staff evaluate existing fixtures prior to all remodels and suggest improvements. In the case of water bottle refill stations, signage was also created to promote the use of water bottle refill stations.
