Northwest Earth Institute for a new online course: "Choices for Sustainable Living"

A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
The Northwest Earth Institute is offering an eight-session online discussion course, using our Choices for Sustainable Living coursebook. The online CSL course will be facilitated by the staff of Northwest Earth Institute. Sustainability is a complex and somewhat contradictory concept, but at its best represents the hope for a healthy, just and bright future for us all. Choices for Sustainable Living provides participants with a powerful opportunity to explore sustainability more deeply and envision a sustainable world from individual, societal and global perspectives. We will be using the online EcoChallenge action platform to help participants discover new ways to make change more possible and powerful, both individually and together.

A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
The online CSL course will be facilitated by the staff of Northwest Earth Institute.

A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
As the NWEI Director of Learning, Lacy Cagle oversees the development of NWEI’s Discussion Course books, EcoChallenge, and educational materials. She also provides services and training to faculty and staff in higher education throughout North America. Before joining NWEI in 2011, Lacy worked for seven years in higher education administration, teaching and research, at Greenville College and at Portland State University. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy with a focus on Leadership in Sustainability Education from Portland State University.

A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
Office of Sustainability is available to participants as a reference. No financial support is provided.
