Faculty, staff and students play a key role in advancing sustainability in the community by their involvement with Farmshed. It began in 2011 when an old greenhouse was transformed into the Greenhouse Project. Funds from the student Green Fund helped with the transformation. University faculty have collaborated with Farmshed in research projects. The university posts Farmshed jobs and internship opportunities to the student population. Students studying Sustainable Food & Nutrition and Health Promotion and Wellness gather hands on training. Campus organizations such as the Center for Land Use Planning has provided resources for the Farmshed website.

The WI Center for Environmental Education (WCEE) programming and staff structure are shifting to focus on education for sustainability (EfS) that more fully meets the needs of school districts and communities. The WCEE staff are working with partners around the state to build capacity for environmental and sustainability literacy. This new, more comprehensive approach reflects a desire to address the environmental, social, and economic aspects of life. The goal is to develop active, educated citizens who support healthy human and natural communities.
The WCEE runs programs such as K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP)/ Wisconsin's K-12 Forestry Education Program (LEAF)

UW-Stevens Point has a membership with the Portage County Business Council (PCBC). This membership provides all UW-Stevens Point employees opportunities for learning and improving career and personal/hobby skills, networking, business tours, and more! The university is a partner in education to help the PCBC implement and promote innovative talent development solutions. Faculty and staff have served on the board and as volunteer ambassadors.

UWSP's Schmeeckle Reserve is the headquarters of the Green Circle Trail, a 26-mile natural hiking and biking trail that loops around the Stevens Point area. About 1.4 miles of the Green Circle meanders through the northern part of Schmeeckle Reserve, with easy access to the rest of the trails. http://greencircletrail.org/
