The Academic Custodial Work Unit is 'Greenguard Certified' through the GREENGUARD ® Certified System. Along with healthy, high performance cleaning, the products and equipment that we use, along with our cleaning techniques are certified for indoor air quality and help to keep our staff and people in our buildings healthy. In addition to using non-toxic, hydrogen peroxide based cleaning agents that are specifically compatible with microfiber rag technology, our staff is routinely trained to use proper techniques to help keep themselves and others in our buildings safe by striving to keep the indoor air quality at safe levels. Academic Custodial staff proudly deliver 'Green Cleaning' to the UWSP Academic and Administrative Facilities, as well as dining services which is outsourced to Facility Services Academic Custodial Services.. Residential Living Green Housekeeping Program: Statement of Purpose The purpose of the UWSP Residential Living, Building Services Green Housekeeping program is to provide healthy, safe, well maintained, environmentally-friendly living and working environments by way of utilized cleaning products and custodial training. Program We shall continue to seek out and utilize cleaning products that are environmentally friendly in all areas where residents’ , visitors and employees’ health and safety will not be at risk by doing so. We shall continue to train and educate our custodial staff on the use of cleaning agents and make safety product and provisions available for use at the discretion of the custodians during the cleaning processes. Environmental: Currently, ninety-five percent of all cleaning products utilized in the UWSP residence halls are from North Wood’s Superior Chemical Corporation of Wisconsin which is regionally supplied and has provided environmentally conscious products since 1964. The utilized cleaning products are in compliance with OSHA and State and National VOC monitoring levels to ensure their products are environmentally safe. Whenever possible cleaning products are purchased in bulk and/or concentrated quantities and then diluted and distributed with water into smaller reusable containers among all of the residence halls. Training: All new hire University of Wisconsin Stevens Point – Residential Living custodial undergo an intense training session that provides fundamental knowledge and oversight of the cleaning agents utilized and the proper use and handling techniques of those products and their equipment. They also receive safety equipment training that advises on available protective gear that is provided by Residential Living and is at their disposal and discretion for use. The training session also focuses on the importance and necessity of understanding and referencing the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) that are available in each residence hall and the Residential Living office. (Please refer to “Custodial Training for more detail) Additional training occurs 3 times a year regarding existing and any new chemicals and cleaning agents in use within Residential Living along with campus and industry personnel consultation concerning the use of bathroom products to treat for HIV-1, MRSA, H1N1 and other pathogenic bacteria. University Centers and the Allen Center are the only areas without a published green cleaning protoco//program.

Energy management standards are part of the State of Wisconsin Building Commission Sustainable Facilities Policy. ftp://doaftp1380.wi.gov/master_spec/Sustainable%20Facilities%20Standards/Building%20Commission%20Sustainable%20Facilities%20Policy.pdf UW-Stevens Point has been working with McKinstry, LLC, an Energy Service Company (ESCO), through the State of Wisconsin Energy Savings Performance Contract program that was completed in 2016. Measurement and verification is part of the contract. The campus has a comprehensive Building Automation System (BAS) that is constantly monitored for conditions outside the preset operational range. The campus maintenance team also uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to report, manage and respond to building occupant complaints The ESCO installed Operator and Green Kiosk Dashboard hosted services to remotely monitor the energy use of most buildings on campus. The Operator dashboard format will be available to Facilities staff for energy analysis. The Green Kiosk format will allow physical interactive kiosks to be added at a later date with only the addition of hardware by the University.

Measurement and verification is part of the contract. McKinstry has performed flow measurements on the water conserving measures deployed on campus and has found actual operations to meet all anticipated values. In addition, water utility billing is collected and analyzed quarterly to assure actual consumption remains consistent with expectations.

IAQ protocol: The campus has a comprehensive Building Automation System (BAS) that is constantly monitored for conditions outside the preset operational range (example: temperature ranges). When conditions are outside the operational range, an alarm is initiated within the system and a technician alerted to the situation. The campus maintenance team also uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to report, manage and respond to building occupant complaints regarding indoor air quality. HVAC technicians are dispatched to the site when complaints are registered. Although some buildings have had water and energy conservation work done over the paste years, they were not updated/automated with BAS and CMMS due to pending projects.
