The university has set a waste reduction goal from 25% to 35% by FY 2016. The Waste and Recycling Work Group in the Sustainability Council is conducting waste audits, setting bin standards for new construction, adding new bins for athletic events, and working on signage strategies.

Compost was estimated both in the baseline and performance year. E-waste, oil, tires, fluorescent bulbs, and batteries were weighed in the baseline but not in the performance year. They were estimated to have remained the same so as to not artificially lower the weight of waste produced by the university.
