A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
o The annual Intermountain Bioneers held its 9th annual conference in Logan in 2012. The conference has often been held on USU campus with support and presentations from USU faculty.
o USU Professor Roslynn Brain launched a sustainability extension website in fall 2012.
o USU Botanical Center in Kaysville and the Nature Conservancy have partnered to run the Wings & Water program for fourth grade students. Students experience a wetland ecosystem from both micro and macro points of view.
o Utah State University Extension works with 4-H to provide programs such as the 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program (WHEP), which teaches young people lessons about wildlife management, conservation, leadership, team-building, citizenship, and communication.
o PAWS is a community effort involving: Wilson Elementary, Middle School, Logan High South Campus, Utah State University Access and Diversity Center, BATC. Bridgerland Literacy, Family Resource Center, Foster Grandparents, Americorp, Vista, Work Force Services, English Language Center and the Logan City Library. The purpose of PAWS is to create and sustain multi-generational relationships among families, teachers and students. These relationships are essential to enhancing the quality of academic achievement.
o The USU Latino Initiative is a program comprised of university and community representatives, which works with the schools and Cache Valley community to help Latino students realize that the goal of higher education, whether that be a four year college or other training program, is within their reach.
