1st program
Sustainable Happiness Course
A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
Sustainable Happiness is “happiness that contributes to individual, community, or global well-being without exploiting other people, the environment, or future generations” (Catherine O’Brien, Ph.D). It combines positive psychology with sustainability and well-being. Vanier offers a certificate program to allow staff to apply Sustainable Happiness concepts in their work as teachers, managers, professionals and support staff. Participants in this experiential, applied certificate are introduced to the concept of sustainable happiness and explore its implications, both personally and professionally. The course is offered to all employees and in 2022 two cohorts took part for a total of 25 people completing the certificate. The 20-h course is offered 2 hours per week for 10 weeks. The course is of no cost to participants and is completed during work hours, upon approval from a manager.

2nd Program
Vanier Wellness Activities
A brief description of the employee educators program (2nd program):
Wellness activities are organized for all employees by the Strategic Plan Advisor through the lens of well-being, social justice and community-building. Starting in the spring of 2022, these activities are offered over eight weeks in both the fall and winter terms. It is offered through the goodwill of Staff volunteers, who lend their talents to animate activities for other staff. Staff are given 1 hour a week to participate, if their manager approves and pending that the department needs can still be met. Activities in 2022 included a meditative tea ceremony, nature prescription pads, forest bathing and others.
