Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
A food pantry exists in the student services offices for students in need. Also, a college-wide food and fund drive takes place to raise support for students struggling with food security during the holiday season. In 2019, 29 gift baskets were prepared containing $100 grocery store gift cards and non-perishable food items. Extra food was distributed throughout the winter term.
In collaboration with a teacher-driven initiative called "A Place at the Table" and thanks to funding from the Foundation and VCSA, 150 students were given $100 credit for food purchases at Jake's Cafe. Chartwells contributed $1000 to help 22 struggling students buy meals.
In 2021-2022 academic year, VCSA will be creating their own food pantry for students to have meals at school.
