A brief description of the institution’s green event certification program:
As a College committed to sustainability and working towards carbon neutrality, organizing Green events and meetings is one way the community can help reduce Vanier's ecological footprint. As an educational institute, one of our primary mandates is to educate the next generations and provide them with the skills they need to meet the challenges of the future. A key way that we can do this is by modelling best practices across campus sectors, initiatives, and activities. Thus, the Green Event Certification is one of many tools the College can use to live and model sustainability in tangible ways and inspire innovative, sustainable thinking amongst our community.
The Green Event Certification program was developed in collaboration with VCACE as a way to promote and encourage College event organizers to think about sustainability in their planning and as a means of showcasing what the College is doing to incorporate sustainability into daily practices on and off campus. The Green Event Certification program isn't exhaustive but does thoroughly consider how events can incorporate the different sustainability pillars through multiple lenses:
-Transportation
-Communication and Materials
-Food Waste
-Purchasing
-Inclusion and Community Impact
