VCU's Sustainability Committee was involved in developing the plan. The Sustainability Committee has faculty, staff and student representatives from both campuses and an array of departments.

The plans goals include increasing the number of sustainability related educational offerings including classes and training. Ensuring compliance with green purchasing policies. Increasing student and community outreach and involvement in sustainability initiatives. Creating incentives to increase the amount of research with significant sustainability components or a sustainability focus.
