The University Equity and Diversity Committee, which is advisory in nature, is charged with monitoring, reviewing, and recommending to the Provost changes to policies and practices that affect the University’s ability to provide equal opportunity and treatment, and to provide a supportive, non-hostile environment for its diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty. An additional role of the UEDC is to provide advice and feedback on the implementation of the Five Year Diversity Plan.

A brief description of the diversity office:
The Office for Diversity, previously a part of the Office of Institutional Equity, was established in 2007 to assist with the development of the Five-Year Diversity Plan. The Office helps with development of diversity initiatives and oversees implementation of the University’s Five-Year Diversity Plan. Information on all available faculty, staff, and administrative resources for diversity initiatives across the VCU and MCV campuses are available in the Office for Diversity.

A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:
The assistant vice provost for Institutional Equity also is the director of the university's Office of Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action and Diversity Services. They develop and enforce policies that ensure equal opportunity and access to education and employment to all members of the university community, oversee the recruitment process for instructional and administrative full-time faculty, develops and implements the university's affirmative action program and diversity initiatives, houses the ADA coordinator, and oversees issues of sexual harassment and other forms of harassment and discrimination based on membership in a protected class (e.g., race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, political affiliation, veterans' status, sexual orientation or disability).
