A brief description of the composting or mulching program:
Grass clippings are turned into mulch by the means of mulching blades on all of the mowing decks and returned to the turf as they are mowed. If the clippings are too heavy, they are vacuumed up and are taken to the leaf pile and composted with leaves.
During leaf season approximately 65-75% of the leaves are mulched with the mulching blades on the mowers. In doing so, leaves are turned into sustainable organic matter for the soil. The other 25-35% that cannot be mulched are removed and taken to the to the leaf pile for composting.
All grass clippings and/or leaves are mulched or composted and returned to the soil to benefit the campus grounds.
