A brief description of the assessment(s):
An employee climate survey was conducted by Human Resources in Fall of 2009. This survey included a number of questions about campus climate and perceptions of the university’s commitment to diversity and equity. Results were shared with each major functional area of the university and in numerous employee forums on campus.

A brief description of how the results of the assessment(s) are used in shaping policy, programs, and initiatives:
The assessment has been used to gauge employee awareness of the Virginia Tech Principles of Community, a university statement of values towards diversity. The survey has also been used to determine key issues areas of diversity and equity that employees feel merit increased emphasis. A similar survey oriented toward students will likely be conducted within the next two years at Virginia Tech.
* The Employee Climate Survey is not available via Internet. For the Student Survey results please see the URL below.
** Some data on diversity attitudes among students is collected within current student-life surveys administered to freshmen and seniors. A more thorough assessment team related to student and employee diversity was formed in 2011.
