A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
VWU has an employee assistance program (EAP) available through our Medical Insurance provider, Anthem. Anthem’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides quick and easy access to work/life support, confidential counseling, and referral services to help our employee's deal with daily work and life challenges. It is employer-sponsored, so it is available at no cost to full-time employees, their dependents, or household members. That means there is no copay or deductible to access their services. However, payment for services beyond those provided by the EAP are the employee's responsibility. This employee benefit is applicable to all of our full-time faculty and staff and their dependents/ household members. Anthem's EAP has an extensive network of licensed behavioral health professionals who can help our employees address a variety of issues either in person or through online sessions.
The University also offers a Wellness Program, an arrangement that promotes health and wellness powered through the beBetter portal. Employees who are covered by VWU’s medical plan (and their covered spouses) are eligible and may qualify for a premium credit of $15 per month, up to a total of $30 credit per month, and quarterly prize drawings. Employees/spouses who qualify during this period (during 2022) will receive the incentive from January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023.
The Student Counseling Center provides free services to all students. Additionally, Virginia Wesleyan University is partners with Sentara Medical Group in the management of the Student Health Center, which is located on campus.
