A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:
While Wentworth does not certify its operations, the campus does follow best practices such as:
Green Cleaning: Wentworth’s cleaning contract specifies a green cleaning program meeting the requirements of LEED for Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance, and which takes a holistic approach to environmental, health, and safety including training, waste minimization, and use of biodegradable and phosphate-free cleaning solvents.
Energy Management: Wentworth is subject to the City of Boston's Energy Reporting & Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO), which requires annual reporting of energy, water use, and square footage through EnergyStar Portfolio Manager. Wentworth utilizes energy management software with submeters of real-time energy use for the majority of campus buildings and participates in demand response programs.
Low/no-emissions products such as paints, flooring, and furnishings are selected for construction and renovation projects. Unwanted furniture and equipment are often donated to local charities rather than being disposed of as waste.
Green infrastructure projects have been undertaken across campus for stormwater management and to reduce heat island effect. These include systems such as bioswales and permeable pavers to promote groundwater infiltration, light-colored pavement, and landscaping designed to promote shading.
