A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution, including how each program addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability:
Wesleyan offers several courses and immersive programs that have included multidimensional examinations of sustainability. Over the past three years, these courses have included: - research methods course on the Connecticut River and environmental, social, and economic connections; culminated in presentations to the public at the Feet to the Fire: Riverfront Encounter Festival - dance and performance course about bringing together communities on environmental issues; included students working for the Middletown Water and Sewer Department; culminated in choreographed dance by Water and Sewer employees at Feet to the Fire: Riverfront Encounter Festival (2015-16) - dance course on rehabilitating old houses for reuse, and included a student-choreographed performance by Wesleyan plumbers, electricians, and carpenters (2015-16) - American farming and agriculture course (2014-15) - soils class analyzed soil samples at Wesleyan's Long Lane Farm (2014-15) - research methods course on invasive species, including commercial uses for invasive plant in California and analysis of college bed bug problems (2014-15) In addition, students have led for-credit student forums about food justice, permaculture, farming, food sustainability, and fostering sustainable behaviors.
