The new Paul M Rady building has 72 geothermal wells dug 280 feet into the earth provide temperature control, only requiring supplemental heating about six days per year. 692mmbtu is the amount of energy produced solely for February and march of 2022.

A brief description of the unbundled renewable energy products:
We used to have a contract to purchase RECs every year and wind power delivered through the city of Gunnison's municipal electric company. However we recently reallocated these funds to support a major solar project in partnership with the City of Gunnison at the local airport. It is estimated to open this fall (2022) and Western will receive 1/3 of this energy. Western has a renewable energy fund that students contribute to in order to purchase renewable energy for campus.
