There is an information fair for all new WWU students where there are various booths that advocate different sustainability issues and programs the university offers. At the fair there are representatives from; Huxley College of the Environment, the office of sustainability, University Dining Services, The alternative transportation office, Whatcom Transportation Authority, as well as other student-run groups that engage students in sustainability activity.

The transfer student orientation hosts a barbecue in which all dishware is compostable. The new freshman student orientation offers meals in the Viking Commons Dining Hall in which they use their dishware and abide to their waste policies.
