A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:
Faculty and staff commuting data were drawn from a survey done in April 2012. 41 faculty,of 205 responded, for a response rate of 20%. Of staff, 101 of 292 responded - a 34.6% response rate. Staff and faculty presented different commuting profiles, most likely stemming from work patterns and distance from campus. Staff lived an average of 3 miles from campus, whereas faculty lived only 1.1 miles from campus. Both staff and faculty had a similar average number of trips per week: 13.6 for faculty, and 15.2 for staff. Of these total 25.2% responded they did not utilize a car when commuting to campus.
