There are active student members on all Board of Trustee committees. While students are appointed by the student government to serve on institutional committees they are selected from elected students to the student government. The bylaws of the student government regulate how the students select representatives from their elected peer group. This allows students to influence the decisions of the Board. Additionally students are able to pass resolutions and send them to the trustees. Student representatives on institutional and board committees are selected by the Associated Students of Whitman College. These students are appointment by elected student members through a formal procedure. This procedure can be found at: http://goaswc.org/legislation/

Faculty are elected to various governing committees by their peers. These elected members serve on a wide variety of institutional and faculty committees. From this body there are representatives appointed to a number of institutional governance bodies. These actions are done through the faculty council.
