With explicit support from Whitman's Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Campus Sustainability Manager is an active member of the Walla Walla City Council Sustainability Committee. The Committee's objective is to be a resource for City staff, departments, administration, council, and the community for defining and exploring options for sustainability during the decision-making process.
With Whitman's representation, we have been able to advocate for a return of glass and plastic recycling in the city. This fall, Whitman College will be recycling glass for the first time in several years, with plastic to soon follow.
Recently, Whitman College has begun a partnership with the Blue Zones Project to increase awareness and access to healthy foods and meals in the Walla Walla community.
