One of 6 options for a 5-day First Year freshmen orientation experience, Root focuses on sustainability, identity, inclusion, equity, and social and environmental justice.
In 2021, the Zilkha Center also hosted events open to all first-years including an apple picking and cider pressing event, an event on faith and the environment, and tabling about the Zilkha Center at multiple events to encourage students to engage with our office.

Percentage of students who have the opportunity to participate in sustainability-themed orientation programming: Calculated by taking total undergraduate students divided by total number of undergraduate and graduate students (could be improved by having each of these numbers for incoming class). Essentially, there are numerous opportunities offered to undergraduate students, but none for graduate students.
