A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Orientation Week had roughly 2000 new students purchase Orientation kits and additional 700+ upper year student Orientation Leaders. All of these students would have been part of the initiatives SCLD worked with the colleges/faculties on around using reusable water bottles, going paperless, mandatory use of pronouns for everyone, and only utilizing York approved vendors for their apparel items that have commitments to sustainable practices.

The Office of Sustainability has partnered with the Division of Students to provide opportunities for awareness and engagement. Students were given the opportunity to speak with members from the Office of Sustainability and ask questions about sustainable practices on campus. Furthermore, the students were also asked to take part in engaging activities to test their knowledge of environmental issues during orientation days.

Transfer students are supported by the ACMAPS office, and recently we have been building out our supports to them, including Transfer Student Orientation and ongoing access to peer mentoring to support students’ academic success at York.

YU START is a New Student Transition Program designed to support students as they make your way into and through their first Year of York University. YU START will help you enroll in courses, connect with fellow classmates, student leaders, faculty members and student services staff, and become more familiar with campus life, supports and resources available.

YorkU has a student virtual assistant SAVY, which is built to help students get connected to resources for academic success, health and wellness, student life, campus services and career development. If students type in Sustainability it will take them to our Office of Sustainability website.
