York University has participated in higher education sustainability conferences and presentations. Below are a few examples:
1. Sustainable on the Go: York University hosts the Sustainable on the Go Conference, co-organized by York International, the UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability, and international partners. SOTG seeks to address student and scholar mobility in a responsible manner with aim to contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goals and incorporating the principles of inclusivity and innovation. The conference hosts international education scholars, mobility professionals, policymakers, sustainability experts, representatives from international development and UN organizations, as well as industry from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe participating. The conference engages new voices, partners and stakeholders with a focus on Youth in creative dialogue formats to further enrich the discussion on sustainable and inclusive internationalization in higher education.
2. Idil Boran is professor of applied environmental governance and Faculty Fellow at the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research at York University (Canada). She attended COP27 Sharm El-Sheikh as York University’s Head of Delegation. She hosted a side-event at COP 27 in Sharm El-Sheikh called ""Bringing Nature-Based Climate Action into Cities in Challenging Times"".
3. Mark Terry, PhD, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, and The Explorers Club. He is also Contract Faculty with the Department of Environmental and Urban Change at York University. Mark has worked with the United Nations since 2011 on the Youth Climate Report, providing films of global scientific research to its annual climate summits (COP Conferences). The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has selected The Changing Face of Iceland, the third instalment in Terry’s trilogy of polar documentaries focusing on the impacts climate change on the island nation of Iceland, as an official Action for Climate Empowerment project under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. As such, it was scheduled for a screening at a two-hour event at COP26.
4. The UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability has closely been involved in UN/UNESCO global consultations, writing and chairing in political declaration processes, as well as key speaker engagement with regard to quality education (SDG 4) and in particular Education for Sustainable Development (ESD, SDG 4.7) since its establishment in 1999. The current advocacy focus is to strengthen the role of (higher) education in the upcoming 2023 SDG Summit and the 2024 Summit of the Future.

York University is the global lead for SDG 4 in the Global Higher Education and Research for Sustainable Development Cluster hosted by the International Association of Universities. The Cluster engages with roughly 80 institutions worldwide that have unique expertise in policymaking and research for sustainability to advocate for the role of higher education for the advancement of the SDGs. Within the SDG 4 subcluster, six universities, all in different world regions, work together on ways to implement a whole-institution approach through peer-to-peer learning, monitoring trends, develop and share expertise on the SDGs, work with university leadership, and to provide leadership training, capacity building and networking services.

SDG Toolkit: The SDGs-in-the-Classroom Toolkit The SDGs-in-the-Classroom Toolkit helps instructors infuse the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their classrooms. The toolkit provides instructors with academic information, practical materials, and examples along with tools and resources to assist them with infusing the SDGs into their classrooms.
The toolkit will be a living resource for all universities, continuing to provide developed and curated resources and materials along with collaborative opportunities to support instructors. The toolkit aims to serve everyone with inspiring and innovative ways to infuse the SDGs into their unique teaching and learning environments.
