York University has a financial advising program where students can connect about: questions on financial aid and funding options available to you, including OSAP, loans and other means; scholarships, awards and bursary applications; or important financial dates and deadline. 2. Student Access Guarantee: York University is committed to ensuring qualified students with demonstrated financial need have the funds to cover direct educational costs (tuition, books and mandatory course fees) associated with their academic pursuits. The Student Access Guarantee is a partnership between York University and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) that ensures that students who receive OSAP and are identified by the MTCU as having “unmet financial need”, receive the support needed to cover their direct educational costs. A brief description of notable policies or programs to support non-traditional students:
1. York University has published guidelines for accommodating families, called ""Accommodating Family: A Guide for Students, Faculty, and Staff"". It outlines York University's commitment to ensure that all community members, including students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the university, receive equal treatment without discrimination on the basis of family status. It is also committed to providing the York community with a supportive environment for breastfeeding.
2. Students with children and families are welcomed in the York community. Childcare and daycare services are provided by the Lee Wiggins Childcare Centre and the York University Co-operative Daycare Centre on the Keele Campus.
3. The Atkinson Centre for Mature and Part-Time Students responds to the unique needs of mature students from admission to graduation. Programming is focused on orientation, mature student success series workshops and mentoring. This is a great resource for mature students on campus.
4. The Borderless Higher Education for Refugees (BHER) Project is a development initiative housed at the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. It aims to deliver university programs to refugees and local host communities in the northeastern Kenyan town of Dadaab. The project also seeks to accommodate refugee students who relocate or resettle elsewhere in Kenya or the world to the extent of its capacities.
5. Institution-Funded Special Bursary: The Institution-Funded Special Bursary Program helps students who are unable to attend postsecondary studies on a full-time basis due to special circumstances. Primarily, it is for students with dependents (sole-support students) or for students with a disability who are taking only one or two courses."
